Why look past Topstep
Recommended CME-futures prop firms scored from their own rules, ranked for traders comparing against Topstep.
The platform became mandatory
As of 2026, Topstep requires its proprietary TopstepX platform — its own published platform rule, recorded on the firm scorecard. Traders who built an edge on NinjaTrader or Tradovate are the ones searching for an alternative. Every futures firm on this page lets you keep an established platform.
The drawdown model is the real differentiator
Among futures firms the headline numbers cluster; the drawdown model is what separates an easy account from a brutal one. A static floor (it does not move) survives a post-run pullback that an intraday-trailing floor would have failed. Sort the alternatives by model first, then by price.
Read past the headline payout
A generous split paired with a low monthly cap pays less than a smaller split with no cap on a strong month. Compare the split, the cap, and the payout window as one unit — they only mean something together. The verified policy for each firm sits on its scorecard with the date we checked it.
Community and coaching are not the rules
Topstep is known for its coaching and community, and that is a real reason some traders stay. It is also not a rule that decides whether you keep the account. Weigh the soft benefits separately from the drawdown, daily-loss, and payout terms that actually govern the money.
Topstep alternatives FAQ
What are the best alternatives to Topstep?
The firms on this page are recommended, scored CME-futures firms ranked by their live TVSM score. The right one depends on what pushed you to look — platform choice, a static drawdown, or a faster payout. Each scorecard carries the verified rules so you can compare directly with Topstep.
Which Topstep alternatives let me use NinjaTrader or Tradovate?
Most CME-futures firms on this list route through NinjaTrader and Tradovate rather than a single proprietary platform. The verified platform list is on each firm’s scorecard — check it before you pay, because the platform is a hard filter if your edge depends on it.
Why did Topstep make TopstepX mandatory?
Topstep moved to its proprietary TopstepX platform as a published 2026 rule; we record the change verbatim from the firm’s own rules on its scorecard rather than restating marketing copy. Whatever the reason, the practical effect for traders is a platform switch — which is what sends many to compare alternatives.
Are Topstep alternatives cheaper?
Some are, but price is the wrong first question. A cheaper challenge with an intraday-trailing floor can be harder to keep than a pricier one with a static floor. We don’t quote fees here because they change — the live, verified challenge fee for each firm is on its scorecard. Compare the cost against the rules, not on its own.
